Mumbai to Alibaug travel
The road journey from Mumbai to Alibaug is a tedious one (110 kms) and I for once used to dread the long journey. Imagine my joy when I heard about this ferry service from Mumbai to Mandawa jetty in less than 1 hour. Sounds amazing right?
M2M Ferry Service
M2M Ferries is an initiative between the Mumbai Port trust and the Maharashtra Maritime Board to offer world class Roll – On – Roll – Off – Passenger (Ro – Pax) ferry service in Maharashtra. The best part is it cuts down the journey from 110 kms (by road) to 19 kms just 1 hour (by sea) and is operational throughout the year. The M2M ferry operates between Mumbai and Alibaug.
Why should one travel by M2M Ferries?
Whilst there are plethora options of travelling from the Gateway of India to Mandawa, one should definitely experience travelling by M2M ferries what with its first class chic lounges, food & drinks on board providing you a world class experience. The M2M ferry has a gigantic deck giving you the Titanic feels.
The best part about travelling through M2M ferries is that your “Vehicle” and “pets” can travel with you. How cool is that?
Well more on it a bit later..
Where to board the M2m ferry from?
One has to arrive at Bhaucha Dhakka in Mazagaon where this mighty beauty is docked. There are ample options of reaching Bhaucha Dhakka. One can either opt for a private taxi or the A41 public bus service running from Colaba via Gateway of India to Bhaucha Dhakka Ferry Wharf.
The boarding process is smooth and fast. There is a separate line for vehicle entry and passenger entry.
There are 2 scenarios here,
If you booked your tickets online
In this case, you need to showcase the barcode that you would have received over email. Once the staff at the ticket issuing counter checks the authenticity of the bar code, you are handed over physical tickets.
If you havent booked tickets online
In this case, you have to pay upfront and get the tickets.
The Waiting Area
Since the jetty does not have a cover overhead to provide any shade from the scorching heat in Mumbai, M2M ferries have thoughtfully build an air conditioned waiting room to relax till one boards the ferry.
Entering the M2M Ferry
We made our way through the well paved road which by the way has directions marking perfectly to guide you ahead. The climb up from the jetty to the M2M ferry was a smooth ride. The ferry has fasteners on the floor should you wish to secure your car.
We secured our car and climbed our way to the deck. As soon as one reaches the deck, the Mumbai sea breeze seems invigorating. We made our way to the front of the deck, which has a covered seating arrangement, where the sun was blazing and the water of the ocean was dazzling like diamonds. It was such a happy sight to watch some kids squeaking with glee and pointing out in excitement to the seagulls.
I smiled looking at Naved and felt very happy in that moment!
We decided to head back inside to the cool comfort of air conditioning and to gorge on some snacks.
